As a technology professional I sometimes wonder - "How can I contribute to improving the quality of life in this community?
What kind of skill do I have that can help all the organizations that feed families, care for children, enable the elderly to stay in their homes, provide cultural opportunities etc."

Groundwork group is the collaborative and empowering community solution that enhances the capacity of nonprofits to achieve their missions through information management and technology.
Here are interesting factoids/reference material regarding the GroundWork group

Community Technology Centers provide free and low cost hardware, software and Internet training to disadvantaged communities (low income, senior and disabled). The Ohio Community Computing Network maintains a list of Community Technology Centers. Here is the Columbus list. Community Technology Centers are always looking for volunteers to teach classes and assist with tech support.
Ben recently spoke at the annual GroundWork Group members conference and promised that he would create a page where nonprofits could find resources and helpful hints. Following is his delivery on that promise.
Platform Lab is a non-profit IT test and training facility that provides IT test infrastructure to all types of firms anywhere. This TechColumbus resource has a mission of providing a competitive advantage for the Ohio IT industry by making IT testing as affordable as possible. Robust testing leads to better application, better solutions, better projects and better people. Affordable testing leads to more testing. Please see www.platformlab.org or call

Very cool Ben. GWG is one of a kind in the country. I hope the CTL community can provide them with time, energy and solutions. Did you and Jeff have any power points, PDFs or materials we might access from your talk this morning?

This is a reminder (to me or to anyone who can get it started) to create a page as a registry for individuals who would be willing to contribute their talents (pro bono) to nonprofits in central Ohio ....

If you are interested in volunteering your services to the GroundWork Group, Please Contact Tom Guy (tguy@groundworkgroup.com) - he is the VP of Member Services and can explaiin a number of GWG's services and how you and/or your organization can give back to the community.
GWG is also an excellent example of a non-profit organized with excellent leadership working with the funding community.

Request for help 12/17/08 - please contact Jeff directly - thanks Ben
Ben-
I received your name and contact information from Sandy Morckel. I am the President and Founder of Gracehaven, a non-profit organization here in Ohio and we are in the process of putting together a shelter for girls under the age of 18 who have been commercially sexually exploited in central Ohio. I am writing to you because we are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to help us use the Internet in raising awareness of the issue of commercial sexual exploitation of girls under the age of 18, also known as sex trafficking. If you know of anyone who might be interested in volunteering their time and talents to a non-profit organization in this way, please have them contact me. If you have any questions regarding our work, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks so much...
