Event Hack

Page history last edited by Dan Rockwell 10 mos ago

IMHO I think a key way to grow the technology community in Columbus is to have tech events that help build community. The more events, the more interactions leading to collaborations. The problem is, if you're going to wait for the Corporations in Columbus to hold these type events you are going to wait a long time. It's up to us, the individual to conceive and organize these events. Thus is born the Event Hack page on Columbus Tech Life. Have an idea for a cool tech event in Columbus? Flesh it out here (and twitter and your blog). You'll be able to find people to rally with you and create the next great tech event in Columbus.

I'll start it off.

iPhone vs Android Hack Competition

From a couple of tweets on Twitter, Dan Rockwell and I concieved a competition between iPhone and Android developers to come up with cool moble apps. We're having a conference call on Calliflower on Monday at 4:30 to flesh out the idea. Anyone that's interested can join us. http://apps.calliflower.com/conf/show/44146 - Alvin Borromeo

READY, SET, FAIL!

For awhile I've been thinking, all these startup this, that and the other thing are cool, but surely those who have /facepalm'd have stories to tell as well.  READY, SET, FAIL is a day conference where we talk to local business owners that failed over and over again, only to overcome it in one way or another.  Odds are we all have a good story around some failure in our life and obviously it didn't keep us down.  Failure is also a so called enemy number 1 in biz, we try and design around it as best we could never truly knowning how good failure could be for us.  I envision a keynote, a panel of local failures and triumph, workshops to help advert or embrace failure and learn from it and more.  Those interested direct message me on twitter at @floozyspeak or email me at jimmydan@gmail.com.  - Dan Rockwell

BIL:Columbus 2009

I'm pretty much extended, but I'd like to see someone organize a BIL here. BIL is an ad-hoc conference for people changing the world in big ways. It's a place for passionate people to come together to energize, brainstorm, and take action. BIL started last year to coincide with the TED talks, and the main one "travels" with TED. Looks pretty cool. - Alvin Borromeo

Conspiracy Theory Friday

Set on the last friday of every month, conspirators gather at an undisclosed secret location named at the pervious meeting that came before.  Armed with one agenda attendies must express their newest conspiracy theory.  This event is like a small Ignite or Pecha Kucha- however you must adhere to the conspiracy theme.  With pirate YARss echoed throughout the room, BYOB, optional cosplay and paranoid stares prepare yourself to be wowed and amazed amongst your peers as you will no doubtly learn the truth behind... (something).  Its a friday you'll never forget.... at least until the next one pops up. - Dan Rockwell
