Aligning and matching nonprofit service orgs with volunteers and nonprofit organizations.
This page is a work area which emerged as a result of the Summit for Serving Nonprofits Meetup held April 14, 2009.
Problem statements:
- Multiple service organizations serving the same nonprofit base - Redundancy. Volunteers, donors and nonprofits may have difficulty choosing the right organization.
- Communication - Nonprofits, volunteers, donors and service organizations may not know what resources are available or how to engage with them.

Scope
- Central Ohio, Franklin County. (initially)
- Volunteers, Donors, Nonprofit Organizations, Service Organizations (volunteer, nonprofit and for-profit).
- Smaller nonprofits and individual donors (initially.) Foundations and national organizations are out of scope until proof of concept.
Goals/ Requirements
Phase I
- Match nonprofit needs with Service Org offerings
- Match volunteer skills with Service Org skill requirements or directly with nonprofit needs.
- Match Service Org offerings with needs of other Service Orgs
- Facilitate communication Volunteer <---> Service Org<---> Nonprofit
Requirements
#1. - Provide list of service orgs that can provide needed service
#2 - Provide list of volunteers to contact based on skills needed to provide specific need (e.g. need/skill xref)
#3 - Provide list of service orgs that can provide needed service
#4 - Provide list of volunteers & contact info to NP or SO that requests a specific skill
#4 - Provide list & contact info of SOs or NPs that are looking for a specific skill
Phase II

- Match donors' interests with nonprofit missions and current needs. (Phase II because matching & giving is likely to exist elsewhere already. Research needed how to leverage existing donor matching.)
- Develop portal sustainability model
- Add feedback from volunteer experiences.
Phase n
- Add ratings of nonprofit effectiveness, etc..
- Additional articles, features & social features.
